We all are.  When our body perceives stress it does not separate from life and death situations and the stresses of everyday life.  It creates the same pathway in our bodies of elevating our stress hormones (adrenaline and cortisol) and stimulating our nervous system.  These are the 2 most powerful systems in our body.

Your nervous system controls and coordinates every cell and tissue in the human body.  Your hormones regulate your organs. This is an oversimplification.

So back to what happens when we get stressed, both of these systems get turned on and ready your body for battle.  One thing that is important to have when you go to battle is energy.  Your body can naturally produce energy by breaking down your its own energy stores- sugar.  As we stay stressed out or at least under the constant barrage of stress, our body perceives the need to replace its sugar with more sugar.  Thus giving you the craving for chocolate, cake, doughnuts, ice cream, or perhaps you like heavier, saltier carbs like chips or fries, even alcohol, this is basically a sugar.  One of the sides of the effects of eating these sugary foods is that it also creates a stress response within our body which makes us more stressed.
